Car history: |
It has been a year long restoration project. It has complete new suspension front and rear as well as new springs, steering box, bushings, A-arms, rear control arms. (notice how body sits at proper height over tires). The tires have less than two hundred miles on them and the car had a complete 4-wheel alignment. I have installed all new weather strips in cockpit as well as new seat covers and door panels. The T-Tops have new weather seals as well. The car was sanded down and repainted to match its original Cortez Silver. PPG Vibrance Collection paint was utilized and it was done in Chevrolet Dealer's body shop where it was baked as well. I did not remove or tear the engine down. The car simply ran too good to do so. The engine runs consistently around 190 degrees and maintains approx. 35 lbs of oil pressure. The engine is correct CZU 390 H.P 1970 454. The car has many options including Tilt-Tele steering wheel, AM/FM radio (not playing) Power Steering, Power Brakes and factory air conditioning. I just had the air compressor rebuilt to use R134. The system was pressure tested and found to have no leaks. The air conditioning shop stated however that it needs an evaporator valve to work properly. I have installed all new rotors, brakes and lines. It also has a new gas tank and sending unit. All lights and gauges work with the exception of the clock. What makes this car a great investment is the rarity of the above options with the 454 coupled with 4-SPEED transmission. Driving this car will definitely take you to another place and time. It handles great, runs smooth, has a ton of torque but it has that feel and sound of 1970. its all matching and I will provide winning bidder with all the information as to what I learned about the car including the original owner and the people that I bought the car from. The car was not stripped down. It was sanded, primed. Then it was sanded, painted and baked in commercial paint booth. It was done by a professional painter in commercial paint booth. He is employed as a full time painter/ body tech for local dealership. This car sits at the proper height. Most of these cars sit lower because of sagged or worn out springs. (go back and study 1970 Chevrolet Corvette brochures, and study the pictures). I have stated the shop that did the work has been in business since the early 1970's and specializes in C-2 and C-3 Corvettes. The springs were replaced with correct Big Block springs. All the suspension front and rear was done by this shop. Cost was almost $6,000.00. But it drives and handles like it was enginered to do. I do not have build sheet or POP but I will fill in the blanks for the successful bidder. This car was originally owned by the son of the Chevrolet Dealer that ordered the car. Then it went to the Corvette Specialist that I purchased it from. I purchased the car from a Corvette restoration business who specialize in the C-3 Corvette. The owner is now retired and his son has taken over the business. He purchased the car from the original owners estate around 2008 and had the car in his collection. I purchased it from him as a restoration project and they did most of the work. They told me the car is very rare and authentic. They taught me a lot about C-3 Corvettes. For instance they had me sit in the drivers seat and reach under the car to feel the factory hole in the frame. This is a quick way to find rusted and damaged frame. This car is in terrific shape for a 47 year old vehicle. September 30, 2016. |
